WHAT WE DO
Cradle-to-Career Education
The HUB Augusta Collaborative believes that educational quality and level of educational attainment are factors that play an important role in shaping a person’s life, including job and career prospects, income and resiliency, and future opportunities. It is also true that an educated workforce can be a critical driver of a community’s overall economic prosperity.
The educational cycle begins in a child’s infancy and 90% of the brain is developed by the age of 5. Participation in a quality early childhood education program for children under age 5 is an important factor in a child’s long-term success. Work in this area has already begun within the HUB for Community Innovation, where literacy has been a focus of its partners, including collaborations between RISE Augusta and the Dr. Paulette Harris Literacy Center.
The Boys & Girls Clubs also make an incredibly positive impact on kids in the area, with 98% of its regularly attending Club members graduating high school on time, with a plan for their futures. 76% of low-income Club members ages 12 to 18 who attend the Club regularly reported receiving mostly As and Bs, compared to 67% of their peers nationally. As is true for HUB partners, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta is committed to changing lives.

INVESTING IN EDUCATION
Within the community, there are several licensed early childhood education programs, including the YMCA Child Development Academy, EOA Head Start, and Heritage Learning Academy. However, economic challenges led to the eventual closure of the former Westabou Montessori School, though their work continues through the Peace Pod Montessori program .
The HUB Augusta Collaborative is currently working with partners to develop a comprehensive educational plan that looks to address the community's needs. The plan includes partnerships with the Augusta University's College of Education and Human Development, the Paulette Harris Literacy Center, RISE Augusta, and others.
